Hello there,

Im just planning my first build and i wanted to run the spec by some techies . im pretty exited as iv got a decent budget and havn't had a new computer in a few years. here goes

Mobo: Asus striker extreme
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=4CCD

Case: Akasa mirage 62
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=49R1

PSU: Akasa ATX 2.2 400W
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=49R7

RAM: 4Gb OCZ
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=4KZM

HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB S300
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=42L2

Graphics: Sapphire radeon 512mb dual dvi
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=4D6N

CPU fan: Zalman CNPS9700
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=4C8D

Optical: HP DVD +/-RW
http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=4DBS

Case fans: 2x http://www.dabs4work...?Quicklinx=2RWK

gonna buy everythinhg after the next intel price cut (+ a q6700)

im manly concerned about some of the striker extreme reviews, whether the zalman will fit in the case, if cooling is adequate for overclock and the ram. its perfect except its CL5, but i can only get maxed spec ram in 1Gb modules :-(
any feed back would be great, also im not a big gamer. going hi spec for photoshop and futureproofing.

Hello and welcome to geekstogo,
Where is your OS? If you are planning on overclocking just get the Q6600, no need to spend extra on the Q6700. If your not overclocking the striker motherboard isn't worth it, I highly recommend the P35 chipset from Intel. Gigabyte has great boards and are the most popular P35 board at this time.
You really under cutting the PSU go for 600W.
Also that aftermarket CPU cooler won't be needed if your not overclocking.
You might want to buy your RAM now and get the rest of the build later, prices are said to skyrocket 30-40% soon.
32bit OS's can only handle a maximum of3.5GB, while 4GB will work, you'll only be able to use 3.2-3.5GB of the RAM.
Where is your OS in the build?
If you plan on pushing the memory hard, I recommend getting CL4 memory as it'll be higher bin RAM, also look around at 4x1GB as it'll probably be cheaper then 2x2GB.

James, thanks for the input. What i really need right now is critic from people with good working knowledge.

I have already changed my choice of PSU to a Noisetaker II 600W. Also I had made a mistake in thinking that the board could only use 2xddr or 2xddr2 ram. Do you have a source for the ram price increase? I'm just so surprised to hear that components will be increasing in price. As for OS I'm undecided, may try vista but i think initially i will be using xp. Is it important?

I will be overclocking and will most likely get the Q6700. As for the mobo i am in a state of confusion, I'm not intending to upgrade to peryn or ddr3 so havnt been looking at a P35. Everything im looking at is with a 680i and is (from my perspective) more what I'm looking for. Please let me know if i am wrong
Could you take a look at this
Those are my current choices and its my understanding that I would hardly notice the difference in their performance.

Thanks again,

Umm you can't use one of those fans for a CPU cooler..... Please just use the stock cooler.
If you plan on SLIing GTX's (you might not be, I'm probably confusing you will another thread) this will not be possible with this PSU.
Please do not buy the 8600GT is a horrible card when it comes to gaming.
