i have done a stupid thing and i think it fried my computer! i was trying to upgrade the memory and i got a new card from someone i know..i installed it and the computer started beeping then made a popping sound. i immediately turned it off and took the mem card out. i put the old one back in and turned the computer on..the fan did not come on, the power light on the computer came on but nothing on the monitor. you can hear the hd and cd drives running but it does nothing other than that. what could have happened here ? maybe just burned out the fan? the processor? the whole motherboard?..someone please help...i love this computer

Hi,

It sounds like you did not have the ram seated correctly and it shorted out maybe damaging the mobo. The beeping occured because the system could not find usable memory.

What fan did not come on? If its the cpu fan don't turn it on untill you find out why maybe a loose connection

You could try the original ram in another slot but if the cpu fan does not come on when you power on shut off right away.

If the cpu fan does not start after checking the connection and there are no beeps most likely blown mobo

Popping is never a good thing to hear.

I had a power supply go POP once, followed by white smoke curling out. :tazz:

But yeah Doby is right it definetley sounds like you shorted it out.
