Thank God for you guys. :D Right now , I turned on my PC and got big red flag that Norton could not repair :D this file C:\WINDOWS\Start M enu\Programs\StartUp\Reboot.exe. I said ok, quarrantined it, than as windows continued to open it said it could not find that file and would not be able to run 'Applications'. I had to hit cancel to get by it. Now I am afraid if I shut down I may not be able to start again. Brief history; few months ago got error mesages in registry. :D Then went to opening in DOS and that is totally out of my league. Couldn't find my faithful trusted geek who knows my limitations. Long story short, a local soaked me over $400 for a new HD, told me that both CD-R and CD-RW not responding ( worked fine when in) and replaced w/ one cd-R I had him change to cd-rw) :frustrated: Things still not working right, one friend says sounds like OS problems. Pervasive enough to be OS, I would guess. Wouldn't run defrag last try. Don't know just what to do. Right now concerned about virus. Found nothing at Windows update. <_< Thank You for any help.

Hi rockset
Welcometo geekstogo
lets frist get the problem fix you have with this windows problem then we can look at the cd-roms if they are not working right. C:\WINDOWS\Start M enu\Programs\StartUp\Reboot.exe is the file that nortons said was a virus? It does not look like one to me but lets make sure. So i'm going to do some checking into it. In the mean time here is some things you can do. Download and install spyboot-search& destroy CLICK HERE only remove the things in RED. Then dowm load and install highjackthis the download is in (notice) of the page CLICK HERE run it and save the log then cut and paste it in a post here and one of use will look at it and let you know if there is anything in it you need to fix. I will repost on the norton file C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp\Reboot.exe as soon as I find out what it is. did some looking found this but its not much info. on it here norton page looking more.
<_<

Welcome rockset <_<

Reboot.exe is a file used by Windows 3.1 to, guess what, reboot your computer (without delay). So why is it on your computer if you don't have Windows 3.1? More troublesome, why was it in your startup folder?

Had Norton not noticed this file, your computer would have been stuck in an endless loop of rebooting! This could have been a prank someone decided to deploy on your computer, or it could be a virus/worm. Please ensure Norton has the latest virus definitions installed, and run a complete system scan. Then we should be able to rule out most virus threats.

Depending on your version of Norton, some trojan horses, or worms may get by. To check for these nasties, please click the HiJack This Guide link in my signature and follow the directions. We'll look at the results you paste back to this topic, and reply with any needed changes.

P.S. Your defrag problems are probably caused by a program that's running in the background and writing to your hard disk. This causes defrag to continually restart, and eventually quit. If you start your computer in safe mode you should be able to complete the defrag. Also, if you rid your computer of Spyware using the links provided by Tazz, you may notice this problem has gone away.

You folks are the best <_< I don't have much time right now but I did do the Norton upate and full scan and it dais that the Reboot.exe is Trojan Horse. It is quarrantined. I don't know if I do more with that or not. Will pursue other suggestions as time allows. Thanks, admin. ANd thanks, Tazz, I have the one CD that is left in my tower working. :D Will pursue, as I can. God bless you all, and thanks again. I will keep checking in and see what those other diagnostics turn up.:D
