Hi one and all,
One of my friends machines has got a nasty case of 'hotoffers'. I have used AdAware, XsoftSpy, CWShredder, MS Anti-Spyware, Norton AV and TDS-3 so far, and they have all found bits and pieces which I have cleaned out. Unfortunately, hotoffers still shows up every 10 minutes and I still can't reset the home page. TDS-3 says its now all clear, so I must be missing something.

I don't know which processes hotoffers uses, so would be grateful if someone could have a look at the HJT log and let me know which ones I should use Killbox on.

Welcome oldgit to Geeks to Go!

You have the Microsoft® Windows® AntiSpyware (Beta) installed, right-click the Windows AntiSpyware icon in the taskbar notification area and click "Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware".

***

Click here to download eScan's mwav application. Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

***

Download Pocket Killbox. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:
the full path to the fill found bij eScan. I expect it to be:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll. Be sure to paste the one it finds.

It will prompt you to reboot, press the YES button.

***

Open HijackThis.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.hotoffers.info/278/

O1 - Hosts: 64.91.255.87 www.dcsresearch.com

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Security iGuard] C:\Program Files\Security iGuard\Security iGuard.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

***

Remove this folder:
C:\Program Files\Security iGuard\

***

Reboot again.

Re-enable AntiSpyware.

Post back here with a fresh log using HijackThis.
