My Hijack This Log - Please help

My wife was online looking at some stuff and she comes out and tells me that the background has changed to the red and black smart security screen. All of the desktop icons were gone and my anti-virus was shut down. I ran a full Norton Antivirus scan, Adaware, Spybot and Microsoft anti-spy. My icons appeared and now when I turn on the computer my anti-virus is working, but I'm still unable to change my desktop background. I'm afraid that by leaving it, the problems will come back. I've run Hijack This after all of the virus/adware programs and here it is:

Last week I had a pop up for that [bleep] Smart Security thing. Next thing ya know my desktop is hijacked with the red and black screen and all of my icons are gone!!. Booted up in safe mode and ran all the goodies; Norton, Spyware, Adaware etc. My icons and everything came back, but I'm unable to change my background. Here's my log, anyone please help!!!

Welcome to GTG forums. I will be reviewing you HJT log.

First you are running HJT from a temporary directory.
Create a new folder on your C:\ Drive and rename it C:\HJT move HJT to this folder and run it from that location from now on.

You have a couple of entries in your Trusted Zone.

O15 - Trusted IP range: 64.62.171.156
Did you put those entries in that zone?

For the desktop red screen:

Click "Start", "Settings", and then click "Control Panel". Open the "Display" applet.
Click on "Desktop", "Customise Display..." and "Web".
In the box under "Web pages" look for a checkbox named "Security". If found select it and click "Delete".

Give this a try and see how it goes.

Once you have done this post back a new HJT log from the new folder by using Add Reply

rstones12, thanks in advance for the help. I moved my HJT to my c drive. I have not added any entries to my Trusted Zone.

I went in to the display settings and their is no box named security under my web pages tab, the only thing there is a my current home page tab which is unchecked. Here is the new HJT file:

Lets do this first, then we can move on:

Please download WinHelp2002's DelDomains by right-clicking on the following link, and choosing "Save Target As":
http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf
  • Save the file to the desktop.
  • Then go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install.
  • You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal.
  • Restart your computer,
Post a new HJT log by using Add Reply

IMPORTANT: If you have any of the programs installed:
You will have to reimmunize with SpywareBlaster, IE-SPYADS, and/or Spybot S&D after doing this.

Scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to the following items:

O23 - Service: Manageer Network Connections (Kern32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\System32\telcmd.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: PictureTaker - Unknown owner - c:\fixit\pt\PCTKRNT.SYS (file missing)


Close all browsers and open windows except HJT then click Fix Checked

Reboot and post a new HJT log by using Add Reply

Download the attached reg file link to your desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge, say yes. Then try changing the desktop.

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Search for a file called desktop.html it should be present in this directory, then remove it:
C:\WINDOWS\Web\desktop.html <-- File

Go to Start | Control Panel | Display Properties | Desktop | Customize Desktop | Web Tab
Uncheck and remove everything you find in there.

Start CleanUp
When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of program)
Uncheck cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies.
Click OK
Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
When it asks to restart the system say No.

Download this to your desktop:

Save it on your desktop and doubleclick on it. If it asks to add the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Reboot your system

Post a new HJT log by using Add Reply

This should remove the Smart Security screen.

To make sure that we have this please do the following:

Please run at least one of these online scans, allow it to delete anything it finds:
You may have to select the auto-fix option prior to scanning, it should be a selection box on the screen. If you are a dial-up user just do one, this can take some time.
If you are a broadband user, I would suggest at least 2 of the 3. One extra scan is most often times enough.TrendMicro HouseCall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Please make a note of anything that wasn't or couldn't be fixed.
Reboot your machine when finished.
