I cant load even my desktop! the only thing that works is my task manager, where i can see that one of the several svchost.exe is eating up all my cpu power...when i stop this svchost i have that 60 seconds countdown to reboot(which i'm able to stop it using the command "shutdown -a") I read somewhere else that could be a virus...the problem is I scanned my HD with avg and it didnt find anything...I know that i got something after visiting a chinese website cos when i was able to load my desktop and internet i used to see chinese characters all over the tool bar and even my windows firewall description is in chinese! I tried to reboot in safe mode but it didnt help cos i couldnt still load my desktop...I was able to load my avg through task manager, but i tried to use HJT and it didnt find the path or something...I have pretty important files on this HD and i cant reformat it or install a new xp on it...I tried to locate my system restore so I can go back to an earlier point a couple of days before getting the virus, but system restore is nowhere to be found. ( I dunno how to locate it through my task manager)
please help!

Hi:

Please go to the Malware section of this forum and follow the instructions at the top. Especially the Click Here link. That will give you several steps that will help you clean up most of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the cleanup process you are still having difficulty, and you may not be, then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

Please be patient as the "Malware Forum" is a very busy place and a two or three day wait is not unusual.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the Malware Section, please return to this thread. Please do not post a HiJackThis log in this thread unless asked to do so and then only as an attachment. To attach log, when requested, either change the .log extension to .txt, or put the log into a compressed (zipped) folder.

Please post back if your problem has been solved.
