Alright. My other computer is screwed up like none other. She's been through a lot. At one point in her history, explorer always had 100% CPU Usage so I always ended that process and I had to run EVERYTHING through windows task manager. Somehow I conquered that by downloading random Spyware deleters and Virus Deleters. I now use Ad-Aware 6.0, Sbybot S&B, Norton AntiVirus, and some other spyware files as well. The days of explorer taking up 100% CPU usage are over but I still have other problems. One problem (I do believe) happened right around after this. Whenever I press Control + Alt + Delete, the taskmanager used to blink for about half a second and then dissapear. Actually, whenever I moved my mouse after it opened, it vanished. The other problem has been there since the beggining. Ever since day 1, there has been nothing viewable in User Accounts and I cannot add a password to my account or anything. I believe that this other problem is related to this somehow. Back in the day, I used IE. Everything java related, would not work. Believe me, I downloaded all of the platforms and everything. I switched to Mozilla Firefox and those problems were gone, but that doesn't change the fact that there is still an error. I believe that might have something to do with the User Accounts also showing up blank. There is one last problem. MS Word just dissapeared. Now I know there are other free clients, but I paid for this. Please reply and give me some guidance. Here is a HijackThis log:

I got the taskmanager working, but that's it. So the problems that still remain are 1. User Accounts shows up blank, 2. Nothing java related (buttons and such) work in Internet Explorer and 3. Microsoft Word dissappeared. Here is a fresh HJT log:

well your log is clean. it almost sounds like maybe your windows xp is corrupted some how, have you tried to go back to a restore point from before the problems started?

I never made any restore points. I think I'm going to format the drive and install a fresh copy of XP Professional anyways. There's a bunch of crap wrong with this computer and I think it would be easier just to start clean again.

if you decide to do that, I would recommend doing a full disk scan of your hdd to make sure that it doesn't have any damage to the sectors

I dont quite follow you. Do you think you could give me a quick summary on how to completely delete everything on the current computer and then install XP Professional. I also want to create a partition.

My idea is, I put the disk in (question 1: when do I put the disk in, when I am already logged in? or when the computer is turning on and choose "run from cd"), choose to delete all partitions, then create two new partitions. One would be about 65 gigs for the default XP Professional and maybe 10 for testing out linux/playing games. Is that pretty much all there is to it? PLEASE let me know how to do this.

yes, put the cd in the drive, then boot from cd, it will give you the option of partitioning your hard drive and reinstalling. thats all there is to it. quite simple really
