Hitachi is prepping the world's first HD camcorders that carry the ultimate 1080p mark.

Carrying on the trend of Hitachi firsts, the new model is the first camcorder to employ Blu-ray discs. It uses AVCHD to pack in the 1080p in the same way mini-DVD based cams use the format to cram on 1080i.

The dinky 3in BD-R/RE discs it swallows will handle a mighty 7GB of hi-def video, far more than mere DVDs can manage.
