What happens if the computer was installed with Win XP from long ago, and you use a WinXP CD with service pack 2 on it to do the SFC with? If the computer is caught up to service pack 2 is that a problem?

I am not dealing with a specific issue I have just always wondered if its a problem because on many forums I always see the caution to use the exact original WinXP CD that was used to set up the computer.

Thanks again,

there is a possibility that SFC could attempt to replace a file that was modified by SP2 with one from the non SP2 disk thereby screwing up the SP2 installation

OK so, to clarify...

If someone owns an old XP CD, without SP2, and is installed up to date now with XP SP2, and needs to run SFC, he should slipstream his XP CD with SP2 first and produce an updated CD? Otherwise he may screw up his system further?

If I may add: I don't think you have to worry about that because if you insert the wrong disk SFC will not be perormed and you will be asked to insert the correct disk.
