My brother came to me with a problem with his computer. He said he could not connect to the internet anymore. I discovered that new.net was on his computer and removed it via add/remove programs. I fixed some of the other problems as well, but I'm not far enough into geek u to know what to do next. Here is the log. I accidently downloaded hjt twice, and I moved the one into a permanent folder, the other is still on the desktop. I can delete it without it deleting the other right? Well here is the log.

I don't see anything wrong with my log anymore, but I can't seem to get rid of FunWebProducts. Here is an updated log.

I'm pretty sure I got rid of FunWebProducts, Spybot S&D comes up clean now. But I ran Panda and it keeps coming up with MyWay.

Incident Status Location

Adware:Adware/MyWay No disinfected Windows Registry

I've tried everything I can think of to get rid of this but I can't. I've done a search for it searching through My Computer, nothing came up, I looked through the registry manually and can't find anything, I also did a search on the registry too. I did a google search about MyWay and found that MyWay inserts two registry keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT under Interface and TypeLib, I looked for {0494D0D4-F8E0-41AD-92A3-14154ECE70AC} and {0494D0D6-F8E0-41AD-92A3-14154ECE70AC} in the subfolder Interface, and I couldn't find it, and I looked for the one under subfolder TypeLib and it wasn't there either.

The computer seems to be running fine, I'm not sure how it was running before the problem since it is not my computer, but I don't notice any lagging, pop-ups, or anything like that. Could what Panda is picking up be a false positive maybe?

Here is a new HijackThis log. It looks clean to me.

Lets try something different than panda. I have never been too awful impressed with the panda scan.

Please run an on-line virus scan at Kaspersky OnLine Scan or if that doesnt work, you can use TrendMicro or BitDefender. (Please post the results of the scan(s) in your next reply)

I ran the Kaspersky Online Scan, I was able to look at the results but not copy them or save them, so I'll just make the log myself.

Lets try this

http://www.webroot.com

Download a free trial of SpySweeper for home use. Install and update it. Then reboot into safe mode and allow it to run a complete scan. That should tell us if we have any leftovers that we need to deal with.

Clean log, Clean SpySweeper.. If you want to get me a silentrunners log, I can see if there is anything in there that might be hiding from us.

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
Copy and paste the content of the txtfile you get afterwards in your next reply.

Hi Rustymilo. I am going to try and help out here. Can you please do the following:

Download rkfiles.zip and unzip it to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt back here and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi Rustymilo. Well that looks pretty clean. Describe with as much detail as you can exactly what problems you're still encountering. You might have removed some items that no longer show up in the log but did not clean up the entire problem and so there are still remnants hanging in the system. I'll need to know what you did originally to see what we have to move forward with.

Cheers.

I dont remember exactly everything I did, but here is what I remember.

First I scanned with hjt and noticed the new.net and removed it from add/remove programs, rebooted and the internet was working again and new.net was gone from the log. Then I scanned was Ad-Aware, and Spybot S&D and let it fix what it found and rebooted. Then I fixed the RO and R1 entries that were not legitimate, rebooted and checked mozilla and internet explorer to make sure they were gone and they were. Then I scanned with Panda Active Scan and it found MyWay(this is why I still needed help), and at this time the computer seemed to be running fine again and I noticed no problems what so ever. I ran Spybot again and it found FunWebProducts in the registry, and found the Atwola and Advertising.com cookie, I was able to fix all of those except Atwola came back, but was fixed today when I did one of the scans ScHwErV asked me to do earlier.

I just scanned with Panda again to see if it found anything which it did not. The computer still seems to be running fine and I notice no problems with it. So it appears that all the problems are gone.

Ok, it sounds like you did a good job. So I can assume that there are no more problems then?

Keep up the good work.
