Connecting to Vista Network

Hey, i just set up a computer with vista to a modem and router, and I had another laptop with XP and connected wirelessly to it just fine. but this older computer with XP cant seem to even find the network, let alone connect to it. it uses a D-Link USB wireless dongle thingy. any thoughts? the activity lite on it wont light up.
