So whenever I try to go into certain folders on my hard drive, I get a pop up saying that windows explorer needs to close.. I tried running norton but it crashes too when it tries to scan those folders. What should I do??

Well, since it just crashed and gave me no error message except for "it needs to close" I was almost positive that DEP at nothing to do with it, I thought it must have been a virus. But then when I tried to run Disk Cleanup, it said the same "it needs to close" message AND a DEP message. So then I realized there was a stickied thread about DEP causing problems on windows XP, I read it, and that fixed it.
