Minor Microsoft Word 2003 problem

When I highlight text and then hit backspace, the text does not delete. Also, if I try typing while highlighting text, nothing is replaced and instead I begin typing from the beginning of my highlight.

try to click on the Tools menu then click Options then click the Edit tab and turn on "Typing replaces selection" and check the other options for your other problem. hope this helps.
