I have firefox but I see that explorer is still running in the processes. I'm thinking it is using up my memmory. Can I stop explorer from running safely? Do I still need explorer? I'd rather not totally remove it but do I need explorer and firefox both running in the processes?

Internet Explorer and Windows explorer are different processes.

Windows explorer should appear in Taskmanager as explorer.exe

Internet Explorer will show as iexplore.exe

Very similar but different. explorer.exe is very important and is responsible for displaying the Taskbar, Start Menu, folders, and your icons. Most users feel quite lost without it.

If you are referring to explorer.exe, that is a different process that has to run and is not related to the one for Internet Explorer.
