And, we're restarted now, and I'm seeing the Found New Hardware Wizard again. Should I go through that again?

Done.

Same result.

Cannot install the hardware because it can't find the software.

Thanks for the article. I'll try that, and if all else fails I'll do the chat.

I appreciate your attempts. Will report back on the fix and outcome . . . eventually!

I'm in U.S. and should be in bed!

I on with them now . . . I've not been loving their tech support in the past, but that's just me!

Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how it turns out!

After an hour and a half with HP Tech Support, I was disconnected. :whistling:

Now -- I have reinstalled chipset drivers, rebooted, reinstalled ethernet controller driver, rebooted. . . . same result . . . cannot install hardware because the drivers are "missing."

Any further suggestions, anyone?

Edited to add ---

Well, finally found a fix . . . reinstall of Windows XP has fixed the issues, and all shows correctly in device manager.

Don't know why it wouldn't install my drivers, but the XP reinstall worked. (This is how I only know enough to be dangerous!)

Now, if I can just get my router pulled back into the network correctly so I can run my wireless laptop from upstairs!
