I want to network my husbands desktop computer and my laptop. I don't even really understand anything about doing this. I started in computers in 1984 and got really scared of networking then. I know now that it is super easy to do. We have been using for dsl connection the Actiontec wireless-ready dsl gateway sent to us by our phone company. I would like to be able to move my laptop around the house. I recently bought for the laptop a dlink wireless pc card. I have not installed that yet. The guy I bought the pc card from said I can network through the desktop to the dsl connection. I just really don't understand what he meant. This desktop is an older on running Win ME. It is connected to the dsl by a cable. As I understand it I would have to have it turn on so I can use the laptop wireless. Do I need to add anything to the desktop to do this? Or does the desktop have to be wireless too? I am confused about this. I also would like to be able to access the printer, external hard drive and maybe the scanner with my laptop without hooking up to the cables. How would I set all this up?

I'm really confused and hesitant but want to get this done. I keep searching for something that will explain it all but every thing I read just confuses me more.
