Hi
My friend just bought a used computer (Compaq Armada E500 running Win98). When he tried to instal a usb mouse gps he ran into problems and gave me the computer in the hope I can fix it. Since rebooting his computer, I've found he's lost his "D" drive (cd/dvd) from "my computer". If booted in safe mode, device manager shows that the drive exists. However, no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling fixes the problem. Also, have an IRQ conflict on hard disk controller "primary intelR 82371AB/EB IDE controller". Think this is causing the problem, but not sure. Wish I knew what the friend did to cause this! Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Hi dancingdolphin, it's possible that the optical drive (cd/dvd) has gone broke and no longer works, but more than likely the conflict is wiping it out. I'm pretty sure you would get a better response posting this in the Windows 98 section - here.

Good luck!

Thanks for that info, have posted as you suggested. No the drive doesn't appear to be broken.
