On Tuesday this Packard Bell laptop was flying along and me, I was working at a frenetic pace doing my search engine optimisation for my new business and website. Submitting manually to the 2nd tier search engines and directories. On one of these I unexpectantly received a 'Script' error box, which I couldn't get rid of. Shortly afterwards, I got another error popping up saying, 'Your connection to the server has been reset'. This appeared a few times. Not understanding it's meaning, I carried on with my work, clicking the X in the top right corner to get rid of the error messages.

Next day, Wednesday, go to boot up the laptop and find that although running at 6.8-7.4mbps, surfing has crawled to a near halt, in fact, everything is very slow. Loading pages though especially, is taking abot 2-3 minutes per page. This is what I would like assistance with please, if you could be so kind.

Ok, now, I've gone through as many of the recommended steps first, as I didn't want to waste anyone's time, so thought I'd try all the malware removal suggestions first. Have run AVG anti-virus - clean. AVG AntiSpyware already installed, exceeded the 30 day tril, but found 3 entries, will list those in a minute. TuneUP Utilities 2007 to clean everything, disk, defragment, optimise, this, that and the other - didn't make an iota of difference. Ran every other recommended action, came up with nothing. Ad-Aware did find 7 critical entries, now quarantined. Spybot S&D turned up nothing.

The only scan I didn't do was I think the Panda ActiveScan as this requires IE, and I stopped IE on this laptop a while ago, much preferring FireFox (latest).

Here is the HJT Log taken a few minutes ago:

As I said, surfing the internet is extremely slow, taking 2-3 minutes to load up a single page and the rest of the laptop feels very very lethargic too, flying along like a concrete hanglider, whereas before this problem occurred it was taking a split second for pages to load. I should add, that over the past few weeks too, when I go to shut down the laptop, it never allows me to take the final step, i.e. the screen hangs with the message: 'Windows is shutting down', and simply stays like that. I have to press the On/Off button for about 5 seconds to actually get the laptop to then turn off properly - I don't know if this has any bearing or not.

Oh btw, I have also, after carrying out all the recommended malware scans, ATF etc etc, finally last night, used System Restore, still no good.

Here is the AVG AntiSpyware saved information:

Would really appreciate your assistance as soon as you can, as just about to enter my busiest part of the year for my small new start up photography business and I've already lost three days trying to sort this out myself first.

Please would you mind explaining what you thing the problem is and it's solution as simply as can be, with no jargon if possible, only I'm still getting used to these new fangled laptop computers.

Many thanks in advance!!

I should add that I just had a computer engineer return my call and that he is coming out at 7pm UK time (1400hrs 2pm US Eastern), so hopefully, he can fix the problem I am experiencing. If not, I will repost here. In the meantime, do feel welcome to help others out rather than myself as it looks like this guy (used before) will fix it this end tonight.

Kindest regards.
