XP Home Edition
IE7 (now IE6)

Flash Player stopped working in IE7, but only on my settings. Worked just fine on my boyfriend's settings. We both have Administrator accounts. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and various other things suggested on different sites. I even tried setting up a new user account, but Flash Player still did not work. (It does, however, work with Firefox on both of our settings).

Thought I'd try to re-install IE7, but it would not install. A troubleshooting icon appeared on my desktop that took me to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917925. I followed the instructions up to this part, "Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\ie7.log, and then click OK to open the ie7.log file." My file listed several unwriteable keys. Here's an example:

7.141: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKCR\Component Categories
7.141: IECUSTOM: Unwriteable key HKCR\Component Categories\{00021493-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Most of the Unwriteable Keys were in Component Categories. I changed permissions on that folder for the Administrators from Special Permissions to Allow Full Control and Read. This didn't appear to affect the issue.

I ended up uninstalling IE7 through Add/Remove programs, so now it's reverted back to IE6. But Flash Player still does not work. And IE7 will not install.

I tried to install IE7 in SAFE MODE, but that did not work either.

Please, can anyone help?

Have you tried downloading the latest Flash Player and installing it?

When you tried installing IE7, did you first empty the temp. Internet Files, delete everything in the Windows Temp folder, shut down all running applications such as firewall, antivirus and antispyware programs, close any open windows, close IE6?

Hi. Thanks for responding. I had tried everything you suggested except for deleting my Temporary Internet Files and everything in the Temp Folder, so I tried that. I was able to delete everything in the Temp Folder except for one Perflib_perfdata file. IE7 still did not install. :whistling:

Do you have any other suggestions?

See if this is of any help:

http://www.ie-vista....tml#pre-install

I know you see the word Vista, but this article pertains to all installs of IE7

Followed the instructions, and the installation got all the way up to "Finalizing Install..." then failed.

Looking at the ie7.log file, I found this:

6.843: The configuration registry key could not be written.
6.843: Internet Explorer 7 installation did not complete.

What could be the problem?

Thanks for your help!
