I've read the posts at Free Anti-Virus for Macs. The first reply offers a link that's not available any more.

I'm interested because I'm having general problems with my Mac. And suddenly--as of just last week, I'm getting a lot of spam in my Mac Mail. A lot? Believe it or not: 200,000+ per day. I've found a utility (SpamSieve) for this so at least all this no longer gets to my inbox. But as soon as I delete these hundreds of thousands of spam, even as I'm deleting them (and this takes up to an hour to do, I'm receiving more spam. So far today I've got 17,964 spams.

My OS is Mac OS X, Version 10.4.10.

I found a free virus checker for Macintosh at ClamXav. Did a scan and came up with a Worm.SomeFool.P. Now there's a tool for removal available at Symantic for Windows only. Any idea how to remove it from the Mac? ClamXav doesn't remove it.

Is this not worrisome? When a Mac gets infected with a worm, I fear for the PC's.

It may not be a problem with your Mac, it may be a problem with your mail server. Is your email kept on your machine, or at the server? If it's at the server you should try to contact the admin. It's pretty unlikely that your machine has picked up any kind of virus or trojan, I can't say that never happens with a Mac, but it's pretty rare.

Yes, I deleted my email account and created a new one. Problem solved.

First, get a free Gmail Address (gmail.com). It is safe, protects you from spam, and can be used through the web or POP to your machine. Second, you don't need to worry about viruses on the mac. If you forward an email with a viruse to your friend will get it, but it will not affect your mac. However, if you are worried that one day a viruse will be made for the mac, a free viruse program that will stop you from forwarding viruses to your pc friends and protect you if there ever is a mac viruse try http://www.clamxav.com/

Sure can! I've used Gmail with Apple Mail for the last year and never had a single problem.
