I hope someone can help. I'm infected with apropos. I've cleared it repeatedly with the symantec tool as well as manually but the autoloader invariably returns on reboot. Hijack this scan reads as follows:

ps I've learnt my lesson as far as IE is concerned. Firefox for me from now on, but I still need to lose this. Can anyone help?

Just to update, I think I've nailed this. As a disclaimer I calim no expertise but some of the other threads helped me and this may help others.

The problem seems to have been a couple of exe files picked up by hjt as O4. Normal anti-virus and anti-spyware definitions missed them, I assume because they rename themselves at random. Trendmicro did find them and identified them as trojan istbar. A word of caution, after stopping them on taskmanager , trend claimed to have deleted them but they reappeared on reboot. Touch wood, however, the hjt fix seems to have finally nailed them.

Any other newbie here may want to wait and see if one of the experts here has a comment on this before acting on any of this.
