Vista will not load

Hi
I am running xp at the moment although it is seriously broken. I am trying to load vista 32 to sort it out.
When I run the install disc It gives an error code "windows could not retieve information about the discs on this computer" then returns to install page.
I have partioned my hard drive into 4. One has my old hard drive, one has current xp , one is a store and one is empty.
Can anyone help please?

where are you trying to install vista to? Is this Vista Upgrade?

No this is a vista ultimate system .I am trying the dual boot at present but not having any luck .Still boots up in xp.
