Ripping a DVD?

I'm having real trouble getting films off my dvds onto my computer.. I have a program called DVD Decrypter and I have fiddled about with it and produced some fairly huge MPEG files - which I can't play as my PowerDVD trial has run out.

All I want is to take my movie off the disk and get it onto my pc; preferably in .avi format and as a fairly small file.

Could anyone explain to me how to do it? Sorry if I'm being really dense. And thanks a lot in advance for any help :)

sorry, we can not help. Blame it on the DMCA. The help we might provide can be used illicitly. Plenty of info on how to do this on Google.
