Ann--
Welcome to Geeks to Go!
When you say that the machine is full of errors, what exactly do you mean? Are you receiving multiple error messages from Windows? If so, what do they say?
If somehow you have discovered a "Registry Cleaner" whose scan reported a thousand "errors," just ignore it. This is really a non-issue, and in 99.99% of the cases, fixing those so-called "errors" will do
nothing to correct the issues you are experiencing with performance.
Yes, do a clean-up. I suggest that you begin with ATF Cleaner:
http://www.majorgeek...aner_d4949.htmlAfter reading the CCleaner tutorial, and configuring it to your needs, you may wish to add that as well. Without configuration, CCleaner may remove things you wanted to keep.
The first time you run ATF, I suggest that you "select all."
After the first time, do not select "Prefetch." At some point, you will realize that some cookies are good and that you like having them in your cookie jar. Once you figure out how to keep the tasty ones, and avoid the others, stop using the "cookies" button of ATF as well.
The guides referenced in the above post will also help, but I suggest that you only do things that you understand. Just take it a step at a time. Remember, this is a machine. What goes on inside is
not magic! It just seems like it.
I have posted some basic stuff at Vox that I think may be of assistance:
http://doc1101.vox.com/ This is not super geek stuff, and is just what I have learned working on my system. There are many web addresses listed, but the "links" are not live. Copy and paste the http:// stuff to your browser address bar to view the page.
No ads, nothing to buy(or donate), no spyware. Just information.
After your "clean-up," look up
checkdisk and
scannow. Both of those will likely improve your situation as well.
Above all, never panic. If something goes wrong just start a thread about it in the forum and we will help get things sorted. If your machince can't connect, use a friend's or the library. Better to stop and wait for solid information rather than wishing and hoping that maybe
this will work.
