Hi all,

I have been given a old server that is worth selling, but would like to erase eveything on there so there is no data on there, what is the best way to do this please?

I have a few questions that should help solve the problem.

First off, does it have an operating system on it? if it doesn't, does it have any data on any of the drives?

Second, it if does have an operating system on it, what is it? such as Fedora Linux, Red Hat Linux, or Windows XP Versions, Windows Server Editions, such as 2003 server or 2000 server.

Third, if it does have an operating system on it, are you able to boot up to the desktop of it?

Were you given any cds to go along with the server?


Please answer all of the questions, even if it has an answer of "does not apply" as it is important to be able for us to know which direction we are going to take this in.

Don't know what your server hardware is, so not giving 100% that it will work correctly, but try this:

it's bootable linux based wiping utility. It have many wiping algoriths. DoD-Short is usually sufficient. If you're tottaly paranoic about data there is algorithm that uses about 30 quasi random cycles of writing and wiping disks
