Hello,

Have been trying to work this out for a day using online Spyware and Virus protection to no avail. CW and all from the topic header.

This problem began as a blue screen warning that changed to the "topanspyware" freeze after running McAfee. Ran Adware and is now back to a bluescreen with danger warning of IE in like 2pt font in middle of desktop.

Here is my Hijack file:

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Also copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We’ll need that file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions! Try to find the time to follow them all the way through, don’t do bits and pieces.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid
Press ‘delete this item’.
Press ‘back’

***

Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
Exit HijackThis.

***

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

***

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files <-WILL be there!
C:\Program Files\Security Iguard

Reboot into normal mode.

***

* Download and install Registrar Lite.
* Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop.
* Copy the line in the box below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
* Click the "Go" button.
* It will take you into the "Policies" folder.
* Locate the "System" folder (in the right panel)
* If found, right-click on the System folder and go to Delete
* Be very careful that you only delete the System folder that is inside the Policies folder.

Reboot your computer again.

***

Download Hoster
Unzip it to a convenient place and open the program.
Choose "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK".
Close the program.

***

Download: deldomains.
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

***

There may also be a number of icons in the system folder that don't belong. Here are some examples:

casino.ico
date.ico
games.ico
mobile.ico
network.ico
pharm.ico
pharm2.ico
scanner.ico
spam.ico
spyware.ico

Please remove them.

***

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.

Go to options
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* empty recycle bins
* delete prefetch files
* scan local drives for temporary files
* CleanUp! All users.
* fully erase files (wipe clean)
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, log off and log on again. This will remove files that were in use during the scan.

***

Please do an online scan, 2 would be better,

Trend Micro Housecall
Panda online scan

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Save the results from the scan!

***

Post back here in this topic using the button ‘add reply’.
Let me see the results from the AV scan and a fresh log using HijackThis.

Take your time. I’ll wait for you.

Dear Friend,

Waiting for a block of time to run these instructions with my husband's help. The pop ups still plague us to warm of a problem and advise an address to go to to fix, though i know this is a hoax? Will run your instructions hopefully Saturday when we have some time. I have already printed and read through the directions and put them on a notepad on my desktop. Also have tried to download most of the links so we will be ready when in SafeMode.

Please stand by me :tazz:

Okay.

Managed to run your instructions. Most of the files to be found in the beginning processes were not there.. even the System32/Log File (WILL be there)

Anyway, the CleanUp and the Panda found the most problems. Also the Registrar file was deleted, but my desktop is still blue.

Here is the Panda scan and my new highjack this log.

While typing this that popup continues to plague...

Also, is there a way to remove Windows Messenger, as it seems a conduit for this problems and we do not use it....

Thanks, Gorsi73

We can stop Messenger to run at startup:
Go to Start -> Programs -> Windows Messenger -> Tools -> Options -> Preferences
Remove the check at "Run this program when Windows starts".

But we need to take on that infection.

Part of what should be gone is still present.

I will renew the advise.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

Open HijackThis
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://w-find.com/sp.htm

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://w-find.com/sp.htm

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://w-find.com/index.htm

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm

O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner -

Then close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer

Download this scanner:
ewido.
Install it and doubleclick the icon on your desktop.
Let it update.
Then, let it do a full run, and copy the log. Past it to a blank Notepad file and save it to post here.
Than let it rerun. Save that log too.

Post back here with a fresh log using HijackThis and both scan results.

Okay. So far, so good. My desktop is restored with my choice of photo (blue screen is gone) but those pop ups about the spyware continue to stack up on my desktop-often 30 to 40 at a time.

Thanks again,

Please move HijackThis to a folder of it's own.

***

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd\windows
sc config mocih.exe start= disabled
sc config cmdtel.exe start= disabled
sc stop mocih.exe
sc stop cmdtel.exe
sc delete mocih.exe
sc delete cmdtel.exe
attrib -s -r -h cmdtel.exe
attrib -s -r -h mocih.exe
del cmdtel.exe
del mocih.exe
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Open HijackThis
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O23 - Service: Trace network connections (ACCRA) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mocih.exe (file missing)

O23 - Service: Loading Outpost Connections (KDE) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmdtel.exe (file missing)

Then close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Reboot the computer. Move on to the advise in my next post.

Open HijckThis.
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
press 'save'. Safe the file to your desktop.

Place the content of that file here in your answer.

***

Download silent runners. Unzip it and let it run.
Place the result here in your answer.
