Hi all.

I'm having a bit of a problem with my new PC. I built it last night after receiving all my components. Specs are as follows..

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
Gigabyte P35-DS3R
Corsair 2GB DDR2 800mhz
ASUS 8800GTX
Thermaltake 750w Toughpower PSU

I went to turn the PC on and I got nothing. There are no lights on the motherboard.. There was a funky smell coming from inside the case. Possibly a capacitor? So I know it's not good.
I tried another PSU which came out of a working machine (The same model) and that didn't boot either.. So it can't be the PSU that's the problem.
I tried 2 power switches.. So it can't be a switch problem or anything.

Would it be my motherboard?
Is there anything I should check for?
Could any of my other components have suffered damage as a result of this?

Cheers in advance

If you had a funky smell then I am guessing that it might have fried something(s). That really sucks because your rig looks pretty sweet.

PS: Welcome to geeks to go.

Yeah it smelled like a burnt capacitor. I Googled for similar problems and from what I read it usually came down to either the PSU or the motherboard.

I pretty much eliminated the possibility of it being the PSU so I have sent my motherboard back for replacement.

Hopefully it all goes well.. I can't wait to see how it performs! Pity I've now got to wait over the weekend for postage to and from the business. :whistling:

How much did that rig run you and from who did you get it?
