internet explorer keeps shutting down

[size="5Hello, this is my first time here. A window that says" internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". Ive tried everything running antivirus software, spybot, etc..... do i have to reinstall i.e.?. i have windows xp home edition. I dont have the windows xp cd. it also affects my windows media, that will also have a window popup stating that windows media has encounterd a problem and needs to close. I dont know how to fix this. please help anyone. thankyou. [/size
