Was listening to music and playing a game on my PC when I got the dreaded blue screen of death on my pc (Writting this on a different one)...

Computer will not boot past the windows loading screen (just keeps loading and loading with the little blue bar but never loads) Tried to fix the XP install with the XP disc but the BSoD returns, I THINK I CAN wipe the PC and start over but I have family pictures on the drive and want/need to get them off before I do so.

Computer will not boot into safe mode either.

Here is the Blue Screen of Death Technical Info:

--------------------
*** Stop: 0x0000007E (0XCOOOOOO5, 0XF748E0BF. 0XF78DA208, 0XF78D9F08)

*** pci.sys - address F748E0BF BASE AT F7487000, datestamp 3b7d855c

---------------------

I am currently doing "chkdsk c: /r" in the windows xp repair consol thingy... I really just want to get the PC up for 30 min while I back stuff up then I have no problem formatting the drive, but I kinda wana make sure that I dont end up witht he same error when I reformat...

Any info would be of help.

thanks in advance.

when did you install SP2? And after installing it did you restart the pc a couple times without any problems or did the blue screen appear after installing SP2 then restarting? Also, if you have another pc you could just take your hard drive out and install it as a slave drive on another working pc and copy/burn your files you want then reinstall it in your pc and do a format and xp reinstall.

Ok, so...

"chkdsk c: /r"

worked... for now, at least long enough to back up my important files, still dont know what happened, except maybe bad sectors on the HDD?

Anyhow, I will likely format and reinstall everything in the next month or so.

Is it a SATA or IDE/PATA drive? What manufacturer (e.g. Seagate) is it from?

I have the EXACT code appearing when I try to format my new HD. 650 gigs and i built a new Comp. I was able to get my old xp hd's booting (Amazing) I know. I plugged them into the IDE slot and behold. But trying to get the SATA hd to format is driving me crazy. I did what the motherboard book said and made a Floppy with the drivers on it, but still...after I go through the initial loading process, and it says "windows is starting now"...Blue screen again. anyone have any suggestions?

Please start your own topic as this topic has not had a reply since Aug of 2007 almost 3 years ago.
Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system.
Thank you for your cooperation.
