I am running Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition Service Pack 2. Lately, I have had numerous reports of emails not being received. In the Message Tracking Center of our Exchange System Manager, I run a search for the user as the recipient. I then find the email listed they were supposed to receive. I open the message and the following Events are listed:
1. SMTP: Message Submitted to Advanced Queuing.
2. SMTP: Started Message Submission to Advanced Queue.
3. SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver Message.

Users are not getting their emails and I don't know where to look to find out if the email still exists. More importantly, I need to figure out where, how and why emails are not getting to the user.

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

First thing with email is I would check DNS make sure everything in there is listed as it should be. All domain controllers and mail servers are correct as well as clients.

Are these emails internal on the same subnet or no?

Jaxisland,

Thanks for the response.

So other users see my resolution:

I ended up coming across a GFI MailEssentials support document in my web searches that had to do with my issue. I called them and we changed some settings with their software on my server. Since it would be extremely tedious to go through Exchange System Manager to check emails for 'SMTP: Advanced Queue Failed to Deliver Message.' (unless there is a log file to check), I have not verified if this is still occurring. So far, no users have mentioned missing emails.

I will update this if I hear any further information.

Brent

Hi,

If you have GFI MailEssentials installed on your exchange server and selected the option to "Move to specified Folder" then the error message you mentioned will be displayed in Exchange Message Tracking should that email be actioned. This is because MailEssentials will remove the email from the Store and place on disk as an EML File.

In the scenario above, you can safely ignore this message.

Please note however that this issue can also be caused if no GFI Products are installed on that same machine

I need to know as well. This particular message got bounced back to the user with :

The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.

Yet, it's a valid email address and that user receieved an email from that sender before and after this particular message.
