OK...My CD-R drive is possessed. First, it was opening and shutting by it's self, and causing something called Autoplay to keep popping up. Then, it stopped and didn't do it again for about a week. Then it started that again, and it was non-stop. I shut down my computer, and when I tried to restart, it wouldn't go past the compaq window. I let it sit and eventually, windows loaded and I was able to use my comp. but the drive was opening still. I shut down again, and again my computer wouldn't load up. I shut down, and opened the computer, and disconnected the drive. Everything is working fine, my computer boots up better than ever. If I connect the drive again, everything starts back to all the problems immediately. I am wondering if I just need to trash this cd-r drive, (or should I call it the burner?) and get a new one, or is there someway to fix this problem?? Thanks for you help... <_<

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Your log is clean, and you have antvirus software installed. :D

Strange as it seems, your drive must be responsible. <_< I'd sure try another.
