How can I set a file with a certain extension to have an icon and open with a program that I made.

PS: This may be useless information, but I am using Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition.

Icons are managed by Windows. These can be set in Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options.../File Types/Advanced/Change Icon...
You can also do the same programatically using WINAPI or registry.

You can assign an icon to your own application. The way you do it depends on your coding environment.
