Hi,

Well here is my problem i downloaded a movie but it needed a codec so i installed DivX codec, however it didnt work so i ended up uninstalling it. Trying to play the movie on windows media player it asked me to install quick time. Thats what i did, however now none of my programs will work. iTunes, Veoh client, Winamp, Windows Media Player... nothing will work! HELP PLEASE!

I think i might have uninstalled something i needed to play media files but i dont know what. i did a hijack log just in case it is needed:

By not working right, what do u mean, they won't load up or they just won't play anything?

Try G-Spot to check what CODEC the media file uses and then look for the right CODEC afterwards, it normally says in the top hand right side of the windows via the FOURCC code either that or just get ffdshow which plays most things.

If you have taken off CODEC's you need to run programs then it might be fixed that way also.

Sorry about not being clear,

The problem is when i click on the programs to open them, i get an error message, for example

"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to be closed."

and then i am asked to send the information to microsoft.

The same thing happens whenever i try to open these programs that play music and videos.

Ah I see, I'm still going for a CODEC issue then. It seems strange otherwise that several programs are affected unless it's some generic WIndows issue.

Yeah try ffdshow or reinstalling your DivX or XVID CODEC's

ffdshow : http://www.free-code...oad/FFDShow.htm
xvid : http://nic.dnsalias....viD_Install.exe
divx : www.divx.com

Try each one in turn and see if when you install them it fixes the problem. Have you ever installed CODEC packs before if so they can causes crashes and it might be an idea to uninstall those.

I tried both programs but still nothing works. I have installed the codec pack it was called Vista Codec and i uninstalled it after the movie still didn't work. The movie itself doesn't concern me, its the fact that i cant use any of my programs to watch anything or listen to anything. I even tried restoring my computer to an earlier date but it wouldn't let me, and i would receive a message telling me that system restore was incomplete. I really have no idea what to do now! Do you have any suggestions?

Also i have just found out that my Quick Time Player wont uninstall. I tried removing it but every time I end up receiving a message saying "a fetal error occured during instillation", if i try to just open a program it gives me a message "Buffer overrun detected" "a buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's inetrnal state. the program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated"

Any diagnose?

Try reinstalling Winamp and seeing if it still crashes. I'm thinking Winamp only cause it's easier to reinstall than some of the other software.

Also if that doesn't work see if you can get a list of the CODEC's that are installed on your system.
It's in Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia, then click the hardware tab at the top, then dbl click the audio codec and check properties and then also the one for video codec further down the page. either take a print screen or type them in and we can look for any that look unusual.
