me and my girlfriend just got into video chat because we live some 400 miles away and its amazing. but her paptop doesnt have a built in mic... (weird because it has a camera built in lol. but im wondering if they make a mic thats like an antenna that sticks out of the usb port in the side ya know? somehting small that doesnt need an earpiece or a stand that will be portable if the computer is moved and can just be left in without any pesky cords trailing behind it. no wires just a hard piece directly from the side usb port. if anyone knows of such a thing it would be a lifesaver lol.

Thanks alot in advance guys! Ill keep looking by myself aswell!

hi, welcome to geekstogo, there are a lot of USB telephones which sound like what you are asking for, they are just plugged into a computer with their program installed, so that one can use skype or some other VOIP system, there are WIFI ones too which makes them very much like normal telephones in the house(sorry not sure if they are WIFI or bluetooth but it's the same result)

btw there are many types of microphones but if you can tell us the make of the computer and number, perhaps there is a mirophone jack next to the earphone one,

its a dell inspiron 1520. she has a tower mic right now but she frequently moves about and it makes that annoying mic crackly sound.... that and the cord gets caught on everything... im lookin for something that resembles one of the antennas on a wireless modem if you see where im coming from. I just want it plugged right into the computer that way when the computer moves so does the mic so it will function simmlilarly to the mic that would have been built. sorry if im being confusing lol. she only has usb slots for mic connection i believe. thanks again for your help so far!

I have never seen a "antenna" style like you describe. What about a headset style, that should work their are wired and also wireless like bluetooth styles.

found these (i can't vouch for quality)

http://www.speechcon....asp?prodID=114
http://www.speechcon....asp?prodID=112
http://www.planethea...-microphone.php

i probably could have found more...but i decided to give up hehe..the first one is exactly what you describe...the other two would probably work as good (the second one has a cable though)

this may sound weird...but...when i'm looking for a product with a specific form factor...i do a google image search for what i'm wanting (like usb microphone)...then i can easily scan through the displayed images to find something that looks like what i want the product to look like (i.e. mic that just plugs into the USB port without all the wires) then i can click on that page...much easier than a bunch of text links saying "usb microphone" without any idea what it looks like
