Hi,

One more bites the dust!

Ok, I run Win Xp Pro (SP2) and have Mcafee anti-virus installed. Recently I opened some files (I know) which I should not have. Short story I got bit.

I had several trojans and browser hijackers on my HD. I acquired Adware SE and Counterspy and did a full sweep. I must add Adwrae managed to get most of them but Counterspy fell short.

The spyware/virus even though found and destroyed kept re-surfacing each time after a boot. Eventually with many sweeps and re-boots and manually checking the Internet Temp Files folder where most of them were residing, (they were names such as Nail.exe - Drpoll.exe/dll etc.) I think I managed to get rid of them (hopefully). Except....

The browser bug. At first it was opening up a seperate window and heading towards Popup Searches.com but now I notice it does two seperate things. One it opens a window which mostly always points towards

http://69.42.87.218/...lk.fcgi?id=6964

and secondly highlights certain terms in green on a page any page. When the cursor is placed over it it shows not an URL but the words Sponsored Link. Which in turns will take you once again to the above IP.

Please tell me which kind of bug I have and what should I do in order to remove it. I will paste my log here when asked to do so to save time and effort for those helping.

I thank you in advance.

I was wrong. The malware and virus were still there after multiple clean up using, S&D, Counterspy, Adware, Trend online and Macafee Anti-virus. After each boot they would reappear. VX2, SAHAgent, RASAgent, Homeshopping etc. I kept at it with all the above till now.

I have loacted a entry in the registry which goes like this, _rtneg3 with 5 sub-keys, 1.eeennn (had adult sites url's) 2.kkws (had whole range of words like a dictionary) 3.popups (naturally opening those sites and more) 4.reel (names/url of numerous search sites for trapping) 5.ssites (mostly IP of 69.47.82.21 as mentioned above).

There is also another registry entry that keeps popping up even when I delete it. It is BOLGER... any ideas?

Please advice.

I see that others have received a reply before me even though they have posted much later. I wonder why?

Thank you.
