If I forget to remove my external hard drive before restarting, I get this:

Checking File System on F:
The type of the file system is FAT 32.
volume Serial Number is ... ...
windows is verifying files and folders
1 percent completed

Now this can take a very long time, so I have to manually shut the computer down, unplug the external drive and all is well.

I use that drive a lot to store large files so it's annoying but my fault :whistling: for often forgetting to unplug the thing before a restart.

If there's a fix for this, I'd just as soon be relieved of the problem.

Advise most welcome, and thank you.

Leave it to check through.
If it checks through but wants to run CHKDSK on it everytime it finds it, it usually means the drive is on the way out.

I have let check through. Many times.

Still wants to run CHKDSK. OK. Better get all that's on that hard drive saved elsewhere.

Thanks much,

Robert

P.S. Just thought of it and realize it's not on topic, but in the event you happen to know: would you recommend a hard drive and/or where to save what I have before it dies altogether?
