web connection problem

I am having problems connecting one of my laptops to the web. It is running XP with a Netgear wireless USB adapter going through a Netgear DG834PN router. Connects to router with excellent signal but cannot find server when IE is opened. Occassionally it works and I can't figure out why. I am also running a laptop with Vista and Centrino through same router adn that works perfectly. The connection settings are the same...never dial a connection...LAN set to auto detect settings. Have rebooted several times but still no good. Anyone have any ideas please, I am stumped.
