Printer not connecting to laptop

i have a toshiba satellite A100-TA4, windows media center edition full microsoft update i try printing documents on my hp laserjet 2200D but it keeps saying error the file failed to print. Funny thing is when i stick it into the usb ports it says its fine...another thing is the 3 other usb ports on my laptop dont even detect the printer at all just that one, and even then it still doesn't work! Need help asap! college papers due soon !
