Recently I tried building a new PC with my friend (who did all the work because he knows what he is doing). He built the computer (on a static prove mat and took all precautions). Once assembled, we tried powering it up, but nothing happened. For some reason the keyboard caps lock, number lock etc were flashing. His dad who can also make it checked everything was connected properly and it was. So we presumed it was the PSU because no power was going to the motherboard so we replaced it. Tried it with the new PSU, same thing happened. Tested the power running through the motherboard, removing each component one at a time, but still no luck. The power in the motherboard kept tripping. So the motherboard was replaced and still the same thing happens.
Please help!!! Thanks for any suggestion. Specs below

Hi Phantasy66...

When you installed the mainboard, did you use the standoffs to raise it off the chassis? What you describe are the classic symptoms of the mainboard shorting to the case. It needs to be isolated from the case and using standoffs provides this isolation. Make sure they are located only at the mounting locations...one in the wrong place can also short the board to the chassis.

To see if this is the cause, assemble the parts outside the case and see if it will power up.

I'm assuming you hear no system beeps.

The next link in the chain that causes these symptoms is the processor. Is it installed firmly in the socket? Any bent pins?

How about the thermal compound? Do you have good contact between the processor and the cooler? Did you use thermal paste or a thermal pad between cpu and cooler? Processors will overheat almost instantly without proper heat sinking.

Next link is the mainboard power connectors. Your board has a 24pin main connector and another 4pin connector near where the PS2 ports are. Are these both connected properly?
