When attempting to join an online game, it says "unable to join." I've tried microsoft tech support and also through my qwest dsl tech support. They've told me it is a port issue. They told me port fowarding might be a solution. I have no idea what this is, or how to apply it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

no router, just a dsl modem to the computer. firewall is the windows xp firewall, but i've added the game to the exceptions.

with no router, port forwarding is not the issue

disable the windows firewall and see if that works. I know you added it, just see if it makes a difference/

Who are you playing on line? (I have no idea what the game you have is).

Is this a person to person game? Multiplayer online game?

Has it ever worked before?

this is an online multiplayer game through the msn gaming zone. it worked when i was using a dialup connection, that is why i suspect my dsl modem. the microsoft tech support says the proper ports may not be open. if that is the case, i don't know how to open said ports.

yeah, i've seen that stuff before. from what i can tell it is an issue with the proper ports not being open. however, i don't know how to manually open ports. any thoughts on that? yes, the game is old, but is a classic.

if no firewall exists, and no router exists, your ports should be open.

do a reverse trace here and tell me the results

The router most likely responsible for your slow downloads in owned by qwest.net.

THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO TO SPEED UP YOUR CONNECTION TO EASYNEWS.COM

You can re-route your traffic in an attempt to increase speed and decrease latency.

The table above shows the route that packets take from us to you. If you are experiencing slow downloads from EasyNews, the problem is usually caused by an overloaded router along that route.

Hosts that contain "???" are routers that are filtering ICMP packets. This filtering process sometimes provides an inaccurate traceroute report. Since these routers are filtering packets our trace program will show 100% packet loss, this is normal and does not indicate a bad router.

If you have any questions, talk to us.
