I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Compaq Presario V5000. Recently had a bunch of spyware and other things. Tried to remove them with Spy-Bot, AVG, Windows Defender. Finally used etrend Housecall and restarted the computer and now I'm in a start-restart loop.

The computer comes 1st to the Windows Log On screen - its not done that since I first turned the computer on.
Because there is no password, I click OK.
Windows begins to start and the wallpaper comes up.
Then Windows immediately shuts down.
Cannot get to the desktop.
Same thing happens in Safe Mode.

To be clear -- this computer I'm using to access the forum is NOT the computer that has the problem
To be clear -- the problem computer CANNOT get to the desktop in either Normal Mode or Safe Mode. I cannot run programs from the desktop. I cannot access the internet.

I have run Windows XP non-destructed reinstall but that hasn't worked.

Please help.

Thanks,
