Hello again Marlena

It’s a stubborn blighter isn’t it, but we have made progress; it is only showing up as in startup but not as a running process – weird.

Considering all options, I think the next best attempt will be to use Ewido; I don’t want to start editing the registry unless there is no other option. To start then, please download Ewido Security Suite:

Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, Update it and Scan Everything. When it finds the first infection it will sound an alarm and stop. At that point check the box for it to perform this action for all infections (bottom left). At the end of the scan, you can choose to Save Report, please do so and send it with your next post.

This could take quite a while to complete, so get yourself a cup of tea and relax.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I will take another look.

Hi Phil!

I had some trouble with Ewido. It would scan up to about 94%, and then run into the archives for l2mfix. I tried it a number of times. It asked me if I wanted to ignore the archive, delete it, or delete all. No matter what I chose, it would immediately "encounter a problem" and close. So it never completed, and I couldn't post a report. Here's my Hijack This log:

Hello again Marlena

Congratulations! your new log is clean. :tazz: Just a little bit more to do to prevent further infection.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you consider getting these programmes to help keep the computer clean:

SPYWARE BLASTER - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
AD-AWARE PERSONAL – A fine free malware detector and removal programme
SPYBOT S&D – Excellent free spyware detector and removal programme
GOOGLE TOOLBAR - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
FIREFOX - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
AVG ANTIVIRUS - Free antivirus programme if you currently are not using one.
ZONEALARM - Free firewall programme if you currently are not using one.

Remember to update these frequently.

Please note that whilst there is nothing wrong in having more than one spyware detector/prevention programmes, having two or more antivirus systems would be really bad as they may well interfere with each other.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-Virus updated. ;)
