printer problems

hey there. ive had this problem with my HP 1510xi all in one printer. it has a couple of problems. always when i turn it on, it prints out a test page for one, and then sometimes it takes the whole stack of papers, and then pauses and says there is no paper in it, espicailly when there is only 1 piece of paper left. it still prints sometimes, so its not completely dysfunctional, but its problems are big enough to still be a pain in the [bleep].
can anybody help, or do i need a new printer?(if i do, let me know which one you would recommend, preferably an inkjet)
