Is it DVD movies it won't play?
Find a program such as PowerDVD, this program has the codecs that you need to play DVD.

Ok well follow these instructions if this doesn't work your dvd-rom is dead.

1. Start
2. right click my computer
3. hit mange
4.you will be prompt with computer management
5. click device manger
6. You will notice dvd/cd-roms drives
7. right click properties

You will notice this message:

This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.

If its not there , its having conflicts reading .

Below that you will notice a bar , make sure its enabled.

Check your properties and make sure everything looks ok in there .....

Ok once you have done that ...... post back with your findings...

Once you have fully looked at all that :

Follow microsofts troubleshooting guide :
