cannot connect to internet

My friends computer sometimes connects to the net and other times not at all. As I have always managed to fix mine with your help on here thought I would give it a try. Default gateway has a yellow mark by it. Keeps saying IP address not recognized. I restored to an earlier date but still isnt working. I have a feeling she has a virus. Whats the best way to check that out? I've tried everything within my limited knowledge, any help?

If you suspect a virus please repost in the Malware Forum (a link in my signature below). After the helpers in the malware forum confirm that the computer is clean, and if the problem persist, please post again in this forum.
