What heppens when you boot without the CD in the drive? XP installation went okay--without error?

It won't let me boot without the cd.

Are you sure the hard drive jumpers are set correctly?

If it's the only drive on that IDE channel, you want it set to master or cable select. If you purchased a barebones OEM drive you can find the jumper info printed on th hard drive, or check the mfg's website.
