Computer is Running Slower and Hotter After Installing New, Bigger HD

Here is an error I get very often listed under: Computer Management/System Tools/Event Viewer/System. In fact, tonight already, I have gotten 174 errors involving atapi.

Also, the computer is taking at least 5 minutes to load XP in the black back ground with Windows XP on the screen and the blue dots going left to right.

I don't think it's my mobo because that wouldn't explain why the Primary IDE worked in the DMA mode while it was hooked up to the CD drives but not the HD's. The problem seems to follow the HD's.
