;) Dear Staff,

I have the same problem with searchmaid, popuper,helper.exe,ole32vbs.exe as described in other posts. I realize I can't resolve it by taking the same steps cause my log file looks different. Yet I encounter the same problems. I did all the steps required as you opted and I hope you can help me as you so succesfully did for others. Untill so far by studying the posts and your replies I'm already impressed with the work you people do. Please help me.

An intermediate user, who probably would've wiped it all if he didn't came across your site, from Amsterdam

Sincerely Peter :tazz:

Hello,

First of all, I need a little favour from you.
Can you search for the next file ( C:\WINDOWS\System32\skcrteqt.qzm ), zip it and submit it here?
http://www.thespykil...x.php?board=1.0

If you can't find it, make sure your hidden folders and files are visible:
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Then..

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
Copy and paste the content of the txtfile you get afterwards in your next reply.

Hoi,

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

* Download Killbox. (make sure you have this version!!)
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\supervisor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\skcrteqt.qzm
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together!
If the file isn't present, it wont be listed.

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Your computer must reboot now.

Boot in SAFE MODE now.
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard

Reboot into normal mode.

*Download and install Registrar Lite version 2.00
*Double click the purple Registrar Lite icon on your desktop.
*Copy the line below and paste it into the "Address" field (located at the top) of the program:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

*Click the "Go" button.
*It will take you into the "Policies" folder.
*Locate the "System" folder (in the right panel)
*If found, right-click on the System folder and go to Delete
*Be very careful that you only delete the System folder that is inside the Policies folder.

Reboot your computer again.

1.) Download the Hoster from HERE Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

2.) Download: http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download, install, and run CleanUp!

4.) Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://minisearch.startnow.com
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1884fe38-ce34-42d6-a272-ba950f73dfbb} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\skcrteqt.qzm
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [supervisor.exe] C:\WINDOWS\supervisor.exe
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {06268065-6404-49A7-BE30-84C00859E0C5} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {06268065-6404-49A7-BE30-84C00859E0C5} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {BCD295B9-803A-4582-B869-1087F4DCB590} - (no file) (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {BCD295B9-803A-4582-B869-1087F4DCB590} - (no file) (HKCU)

The next ones are not needed to startup with windows, because, first of all, they slow down your startup and your system when running in the background all the time. So i suggest you also fix them.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DownloadAccelerator] C:\PROGRA~1\DAP\DAP.EXE /STARTUP
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [warez] "C:\Program Files\Warez P2P Client\Warez.exe" -h

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot again.

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Dear Miekiemoes,

:) Here's the result hjt logfile after following the steps you suggested. I notice msmessenger runs from startup. :) Can you tell me how to stop this proces? Can I just fix check it in hijackthis or killbox it? I don't use it can't I just delete it? Or flush with cleanup! :) My panda prompts me everytime and asks what to do with it. I tell it to never allow it however it keeps popping up. Can you help me with this? I'll be most obliged.

Hoi,

You did a great job.

Now just one leftover:

Check and fix next line in hijackthis again:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSN Messenger] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmsgs.exe

There is a big difference between:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msmsgs.exe (BAD one)

and

C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe (GOOD one.. your messenger where you chat with)

Look at the folder where it is present. :tazz:
The good one is present in the Messenger-folder. The bad one is present in the system32-folder.

It seems like we got it.. because it isn't running in your processes anymore. Only the good msmsgs.exe is. ;)

I see you are using DAP (Download accelerator) which is not technically malware, but it may include malware and allow it into your system. You can find safer alternatives here: http://www.spywarein...cat=dlman#dlman

I'm also not very fond of that EmpirePoker and PartyPoker. But in here it's your choice ofcourse whether you uninstall it or not.

How are things running now?

Thanks Miekiemoes,

you've been very helpfull. :tazz:

It seems like everything is running normal now. I'll check out these download options. As for empire and party, they may be questionable but the money I get from it is not ;)
If things keep running ok you can check some of that out yourself. ;)
However I will not just dismiss your remarks and if there's a story about these sites I would very much like to here it.

I suppose I have to reboot after hijacking the suggested line, right?

Sincerely yours,
AK

I didn't know you can earn money with that ;) I always disliked things with poker in it.. hahaha.
It was only a optional/suggestion, but in your case... leave it. :)
Hope you win a lot with it. :tazz:

Yes reboot and look if that line is back again. But i'm pretty sure it's gone now.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: So visit asap http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to update to SP2

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again!

Leuk om met je samen te werken. ;)
