I have always had to press shut down twice to shut off computer. Two days ago, right after i opened my neighbor's flash memory, my computer started repeatedly rebooting everytime i start up. so far i have been able to open it by the fourth or fifth reboot, it seems like maybe when i try to open a folder or anything while it is booting up the desktop. i have cleaned off dust etc. it is not that and ran all my virus searches. XP SP2 system compaq presario, please help

Hello jessica369...

Have you tried running a System Restore to a time before this latest problem started? Click Start, then All Programs, point to Accessories, then to System Tools and choose System Restore. Choose to have it restore your computer to an earlier time and select a date a few days before the problem began.

Let us know if this helps...

I didn’t use system restore at first because I thought that that could fossilize a virus and make it worse; is that not so? Besides, I haven’t installed any new software or anything lately. I forgot to add the system error message that comes up from the rebooting is system error category 102 event 1003, thanks, jessica :)

Thank-you. I typed the problem into google before coming here. None of the things I found helped. I'm going to try another computer help site, thanks anyways
