So my sister calls me up: "I can't get online and you have to help me".. Well I am in need of help above my status, so here I am.
Her computer is a dell :) dimension 2350 with XP
She runs McAfee Security (which I suspect is the culprit)
There are no icons in the Network folder.. (I think McAfee ate them)
I get error messages that say:
DHCPCSVC.DLL is not a valid image
RASADHLP.DLL is not a valid image

I cannot open windows firewall. It says the ICS (internet connection sharing service is not able to start)
It seems there is no ICS on the computer anymore.
I have tried running network wizards to make a new connection but I can't do that either.
If I do a command prompt - ipconfig I get this error message:
DhcpNotifyMediaReconnected could not be located in the dynamic link library DHCPCSVC.DLL

I have tried system restore.. everything restores but still no networking icons or ability.

I have found both DLL files and replaced them with what I assume are good DLL files, but I still have nothing.

I don't know what else to tell you right now,, tell me what else you might need to know and I will provide.

~~~~~~~~~~~
(Later that night)
Ok, so you know, I am tired. It is 2:15 am right now. I have jump drives holding my eyes open.
I think I may have narrowed the issue down.
My sister and her significant other, and their daughter all have their own user account. I decided to make a new user account with full admin rights.. behold, I have a network icon for LAN
So what do you think?
Wipe out all user accounts and make new ones?
Crap, I have to get some sleep
Hi PsychPosse
Wipe out all user accounts and make new ones?
Yes
Make sure you copy any MUST HAVE data to your new admin account 1st - Just in case.
Then set up a new account for sister and see if you can access the data in her old account and move it to the new account.
The do the same for the other accounts.
Then and only then, Wipe the old accounts.
If you have trouble accessing the old folders to move data then follow this.
How to take access of folders
Cheers
Peterm
